A Whirlwind Windy Trip

So we ventured down to the Wallace Bed-n-Breakfast and were quickly whisked away the next morning to Goblin Valley. It included 12 kids and six adults. Fun right? FUN!!!

Where's Waldo - look at this place!

Nellie tried to climb this for ten minutes, Rich and I just sat and watched her and laughed!
My parents said to take whistles for fear of losing kids. Sure enough Nellie thought she was a BIG kid and took off following the big kids for a bit. In fact she thought she was a big kid the whole weekend. Goblin Valley was very cool it was like plops of playdough plopped in the middle of a sandstone dessert. Way fun for adventuring kids of all ages.

Once again we were tricked into taking a Wallace kid in our car, the kind that puke.  So my mad motherly skills kicked in a wham-o we had paper towels and a garbage sack in hand lickity split. I was fortunate enough to have the loaded/used paper towel thrown back at me once the puking was completed. It was AWESOME!!!

We were down in a kind of bowl and once we came out of it the wind was smacking us in the faces reminding us that Utah weather is ALWAYS so unpredictable and completely out of control.

We then made it to the "Whispering Sands Hotel" after numerous stops of picture taking that HAD to be done. We devoured a big juicy burger, fries and shakes.  It was Yummo! After all that sight seeing and Gobblin hopping we had done!

I am pretty sure we clogged pipes with all the sand that came out of our hair alone, nevermind the crevaces that held sand in odd places.  This place even had cable tv it was one swanky joint. Complete with Breakfast at the local gas station!

The Whitemyer Family at Capital Reef - Wahoo!

For day two Rich called the Capital Reef Forest Ranger and stated, "We got 12 kids 6 adults what should we do today?" That Ranger sold us when he said that the park sits in a bowl out of the wind/sand. Did you know there are an abundance of orchards in this neck of the woods?! Who knew? We were all expecting to pay a steep park fee. But it turned out we saw and enjoyed so much we did not even enter the "actual" Capital Reef Park.

I love this picture - Nellie thinks she is giving out peace signs and she is so cool and it is her thumbs up!

We hiked to Hickman Bridge, it was super kid friendly and the perfect little hike, included with highlighted stops of intellectual information. Narrated by yours truly! Then we tally hoed on down the road with more photo-op stops along the way.

We came upon our perfect picnic spot that was the perfect set-up for our Easter Egg Hunt. We sent the Large kids (husbands) off with the real kids so we Mommas could hide eggs. Well they decided to take in a flick at the local Ranger Station and us Momma Hens had to ward off Deer, Tourists and Birds to leave our candy filled eggs alone. It was highly stressful to say the least!

Get Ready - Get Set - GO! The bigger kids on there late start.

Nellie found the "Golden Egg" it was $5. She worked hard for that find all by her BIG self. Trudged through the water and everything. She had the big kids a little peeved over it, ha ha!

Since we did not have enough sugar we took a visit to the local Historical Polygamist House and got some Peach Pie and Ice Cream. Rich's Belly was so full!
Rich and Seth= True Love (Inside Joke ha ha Laugh okay)
Wahoo it was a Hoot -n- Nannie of a good time this trip was. Wrapped up with locking my keys in the car!

  1. What a fun trip! We visited Goblin last April and loved it. We stayed the night at a nearby hotel and I'm sure we filled-up the pool with plenty of sand. The kids had a blast climbing all around those things. And last October we did the Hickman Bridge hike in Capitol Reef. It was beautiful! Such cool rock formations along the way.
