Let me start by saying this day will stay in my memory for a very long time. It was such a fun eventful day for the Whitemyer Family. I am not one of those Mom's that pushes their kids so as to live vicariously through them. With that said my Rileigh does not enjoy dancing, totally breaks my heart. She says tumbling hurts her legs and has to know the forecast before she'll go skiing. So on this day Rileigh did not want to ski, least of all want to compete in the Grom Fest.
Oh sorry, what is Grom Fest? The Grom Fest is a downhill course tailored to young Groms. Skiers/riders will participate in a small slopestyle and slalom race competition focused to get kids ages 12 and younger up on the mountain and engaged in a friendly competition. This event helps our “groms” improve their skills in a fun environment. This is an event where every participant wins. Categories are 0 - 8 years of age and 9 - 12 years of age. So my children definitely had the advantage being the oldest in their category at the prime age of 8.
Each participant gets two turns at the small slopestyle and two turns at the slalom race. Best score is kept from each event. These first two pictures are Rileigh!!!
Next two pictures are Logan!!!
Next up Logan succeeding with no problems across the boxes pulling a 180 at one point (I think that is what the swanky trick is called I am not sure)

In the end Rileigh took 2nd place, 2nd place!!! She won some sweet headphones and a hat, that she gave to her dad. Also, all competitors got a swag bag with a T-shirt and goods! Logan took 1st place and won a pretty sweet coat, he totally needed a bigger coat too!
Nellie playing the part of the cool little sister!
The following Monday ready for school. Rileigh tore off her T-shirt as she ran out the door to the bus. I was unable to "push" her into wearing her prized shirt she refused to wear it to school. Logan, well, he wore it with pride. Under his new coat of course!
Already Logan is gearing up to beat the 12 year olds next year, since he will be in the older category. Just hope Rileigh will want to particiapate all on her very own and not have to be "pushed" into it. So proud of my kids and cannot wait for next year!

SO happy that you have finally blogged! I was getting really bored.....
ReplyDeleteLOVE those sweet kids & love that they got out there and accomplished something so awesome! congrats to you all!!
